Oranjestad – Aruba, August 10 2015: Ling & Sons IGA Supercenter's Grand Mascot Search ended in March 2015 as the entire Ling and Sons team announced 17-year-old student Ricky Croes as the winner of the campaign and the $1,000 prize.
The search for a mascot to represent Aruba’s largest supermarket began in November of last year and as of December 1, 2014 many participants had submitted their most creative designs.
The campaign was extremely successful, and members of the community of all ages took part. “We have received amazing feedback, from turtles to shoco, koala beers, superheroes, and even names such as “lingo”. The creativity of Arubans is immense and we are very happy that they could join the Ling & Sons family for such an important choice as is our Mascot,”
A decision certainly was not an easy one to make, but after evaluating different designs and concepts, the sea turtle designed by Ricky Croes was chosen as the big winner and was baptized as “Mishell: the mischievous turtle that changes the prices in the supermarket”. The name “Mishell” is based on the turtle’s “shell”, where he hides special prices and promotions which he will introduce or change in the supermarket; the local element in his name is “Mi”, which in Papiamento is “Mine”, and serves to identify “Mishell” as everybody’s best friend from Ling & Sons. The entire Ling & Sons team liked the idea of a sea turtle because they also relate to it. “Aruba has very beautiful beaches that several times a year are visited by sea turtles. We are a local company serving Aruba for 50 years, and now we also have a turtle that brings many surprises when he visits our supermarket.”
Ling & Sons IGA Supercenter was established by the Ling family in 1965 and this year celebrates 50 years of service to the Aruban community. In connection with this grand celebration, Ling & Sons cordially invites the community to enjoy the fabulous promotions that “Mischell” is offering during the entire year and to visit Ling & Sons from Monday through Saturday between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
